Job Description:

Responsible for supporting the safe and effective operation, installation, and maintenance of all building environmental automation control systems on campus. Will also assist with building mechanical systems repair, installation, and maintenance under the direction of the HVAC Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work together and independently to operate, repair, replace, install, and maintain campus HVAC controls and related systems. This may include electronic operators, thermostats, and DDC/pneumatic control systems. Work with HVAC Controls Supervisor in determining planning building environmental control needs. Coordinate service, installation, preventative maintenance, or other work with university personnel and/or outside contractors.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Normal working hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Temporary or permanent reassignment of work schedule may occur to suit the needs of the University.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Graduation from high school or equivalent GED required. Higher education coursework or trade school preferred.
  2. Previous HVAC pneumatic and/or DDC controls experience required. Preference given to those having experience with Honeywell or Utah Yamas systems.
  3. Must be able to work safely with power and hand tools.
  4. Demonstrated strong human relations abilities, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  5. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations applicable to the area of responsibility.
  6. Interaction with: a. Campus Community b. Vendors & Contractors
  7. Working knowledge of the following computer program(s): a. Microsoft Office Suite b. Google Platform Building automation software - Honeywell or Utah Yamas required.
  8. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, in English, both written and verbally, with Facilities Management staff regarding critical information, shift occurrences, work orders, problems, upcoming needs, and tasks beyond the individual’s scope and capability.
  9. Must have a current Utah Driver’s License.
  10. Deep level of understanding of all Schneider Electronic products and software.
  11. Complete ability to upgrade and program Schneider BMS programs.
  12. Must be able to train other employees up to SUU specifications.
  13. Must have knowledge and experience with SUU campus.

Experience:

  1. Commercial, light industrial, or university campus building automation, DDC controls operation, or related HVAC experience required.
  2. Preference given to those with Honeywell or Utah Yamas automation systems experience.
  3. Proven ability to complete tasks and assignments with excellent workmanship and code knowledge.
  4. Proven outstanding work ethic demonstrated through previous employment or schooling.

Working Conditions:

  1. Works indoors or out, in all seasons, often in industrial settings typical to a higher education setting.
  2. Must be able to work overhead and in confined conditions and work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms, as required.
  3. Travels in a university vehicle as required, sometimes overnight.
  4. Must be able to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the university.
